Information about Wendy

I take a very individualised and motivating approach for each student, taking time for them to identify areas of weakness that they would like to improve. Confidence building is an essential part of my style, through offering model answers, scaffolding answers for students and through positive commentary and critique. I try to offer a variety of lesson styles according to the student’s preferences. I like to find out how students enjoy learning and then tailor sessions around that. With exam marking experience for AQA I am good at demystifying exam board requirements for different styles of exam question including longer essays.

Comments: Wendy taught me for around four months leading up until my year 13 A level exams. Her lessons were clear, organised, fun, and extremely helpful. The previous year I achieved an E in my AS level for Geography. Within the four months of having Wendy we went through revising and preparing for those retakes as well as all the work at A2. Despite the little time we had to prepare Wendy`s brilliant lesson structure allowed us to cover everything we needed to in the time. Wendy was also there when I needed her to answer small questions outside actual lesson time. Thanks to all her help she managed to get my grade from an "E" at AS level to finally achieving an "A" at A level. I highly recommend you use her as your tutor.

Comments: We have been seriously impressed and privileged to have had Wendy as a Tutor for our daughter for her Geography A level.

Wendy is an experienced Teacher who actually has a lesson plan each time. This is good practice but something which not all Tutors take time to do.

Teaching towards an exam board syllabus and ensuring all the topics are covered.

Wendy’s obvious passion for the subject is infectious and I wouldn’t be surprised if she is one of the ‘inspirational’ teachers who other children too will remember long after their formal education is over.

Comments: Wendy is a wonderful tutor, friendly, fun and enthusiastic. Her teaching experience is second to none. She raised my 16 year old from a predicted 4 in Geography GCSE to an actual 8! All this in just five months. We are delighted with her teaching skills, can`t praise her enough.

Comments: Wendy has been an absolutely fantastic tutor. She is dedicated, friendly and has a masterful understanding of Geography. She has been able to identify what needs to be worked on and acts based on this, while keeping other skills at a high level of maintenance. Her approach is personalized depending on the needs of the student and we definitely recommend her to anyone looking for Geography lessons. We enjoyed and appreciate every minute of every lesson we have had and wish her the very best in the future.

Comments: Wendy is a very good tutor as she was able to turn my E into an A. She is most certainly a personal tutor as her teaching is constructed in such a way that it suits the students’ needs individually.

Availability: I have plentiful availability Monday to Thursday and weekends too.

Experience: I taught in East Sussex schools from 1984 to 2011. My main focus in terms of subjects was geography, with some Humanities teaching too. I have a Masters in Education (Geography in Education) at Distinction level from UCL. I held a range of senior pastoral care roles in schools and so I have a great deal of experience offering one to one support within a school setting. My last teaching post was as Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Sixth Form, so I have a good knowledge of the university (UCAS) system and guidance for careers/ job applications. During my time leading the Sixth Form there was a dramatic increase in successful applications to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.
More recently I have gained international teaching experience as a lecturer in English for Academic Purposes at universities. I worked with students from a range of countries but mainly China and Thailand to improve their English communication skills, (academic writing, listening and speaking) in preparation for their university Master’s degree courses. (Kings University - 2017 and University of Kent 2019).

Whilst my daughter enjoyed the lessons and did well in her practical aspect she only got an E in her final A level. Would I pay the cost again, no.
