I am passionate about teaching but unfortuantely had to leave permanent employment when my youngest son was diagnosed with special needs. He is now far more settled and I feel tutoring offers the best opportunity for me to continue doing what I love whilst still being available for my son.
I tutor english and maths KS1 and 2. I also tutor KS3+ up to level 5. I have experience with children who have special needs, are reluctant learners or just need a bit of help.
I begin by talking to parents to discover what they hope to achieve and then talking to the student to gain their perspective. A large amount of issues stem from a lack of confidence. If necessary, I may then do an assessment to find out where they are acadenmically. I can also give advice to parents to help their child acheive.
I try to make my lessons as fun and interesting as possible using all whichever approach suits the child best.
I give regular updates to the parents.
Availability: I am available during school hours for those who are home schooled or school refusers.
I can do some week nights to be arranged and I am available on weekends if necessary, though I do charge slightly more for Sunday tutoring.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I am a qualified primary school teacher and have taught years 5 and 6 in a classroom setting. I have also taught in a secondary school. As well as being a class teacher my last job involved teaching english and maths booster classes to year 7. The aim was to get them to level 4 in english and maths within a year. The majority of my students were successful in this.
I also taught individuals and small groups in the Learning support department, everything from english and maths to social skills.I have recently been tutoring a year 3 child who was very behind and have helped him to gain at least a level in english and maths in order for him to return to school full of confidence.
Lastly, as I have 2 children with special needs, and have worked withing this area, I am particulary fond of helping children who have difficulties whatever they may be.
I do not tutor for the 11+.
