I have been very fortunate to have spent four of the five and a half years of my teaching career in positions of responsibility. During this time I have learnt from many influential senior staff, and have had a large breadth of experience in a challenging inner-city London school with the Teach First Programme and a beacon school in Essex. I have also led significant change in my role as Head of Business and Economics, raising attainment and creating student focused initiatives for growth and achievement. Owing to the nature of my degree, I am also able to offer a range of further subjects including Law, Politics, Sociology and 20th Century History.
In the past year I have gained 89% A*-C percentage at GCSE, a 26% improvement. To continue progress in this area I have engaged with our most challenging students, including working with and creating innovative student improvement programmes. This work is shared on [contact detail removed]. At A-Level, over 95% of my students gained A-C grades, well above the school value added average, with 92% achieving this score in Economics.
My students have described my lessons as innovative and enjoyable and I have a good working relationship with all of my tutees. Generally, I believe that learning should be fun and active but also collaborative event between teacher and student. Finding the strength of a particular student has been key to my teaching success and this provides the cornerstone of my tutoring. I believe that by working with a student and finding a method that suits them is very important in raising confidence, and my tutees have enjoyed the range of teaching that I use. More importantly I have a passion for learning and not in any one particular subject, so I am flexible and enjoy working with various subjects and individuals.
My methods have gained award nominations including the Teach First Ambassadors Award for my work with innovative practice for raising achievement with young adults and this is reflected in real results.
