teacher level: £22 per hourMy names Will , I am a young student aged 18. My passion is music, and it is what I study and perusing as a career. I've been a percussionist since about the age of 8 and started playing the kit when I was about 10/11. I've always taken the drums very seriously, and new from a young age it was in this instrument that my talents lay, and also music in general, as I am also a pianist and composer. My main, preferred style of drumming is jazz. Jazz fusion being the strongest sub-genre. I also play for a big band, and a couple of outfits playing rock and funk. I can teach almost any genre apart from maybe heavy metal, as I never took much interest in that, and don't use a double pedal! My main influences out of many I would say are Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, John Bonham, Jojo Mayer and Buddy Rich...
My approach to teaching the drums, is to build a strong technical approach through consistent and extended study of the different aspects of drumming and genres they can be used in. I make sure time is taken to master certain elements of drumming technique, but also try to make the lessons as enjoyable as possible, by having an extended library of music to play along to, and also by trying to get the student to explore their own creative ideas, and help find their own voice on the instrument.
Availability: I am free until the end of september 2011 for most of the time. The weekends are usually relatively free, and so are weekdays and weekday evenings. The only times I always can't do are tuesday afternoon, midday on saturday, and thursday and friday evening. I will be going to Hatfield uni at the end of september, and since it is not far away, will still be able to teach, however i am not sure of my availability yet.
Experience: I have taught 5 pupils in my time as a tutor so far. With the age range starting at about 8 up to 40 odd. I have also taken a group percussion class at my old school this year, and I'm about to start teaching a fellow student of mine in the upcoming weeks.
Qualifications: I have a an A in AS Music Tech, and A2 level is currently pending...
