My main interest is in teaching children who struggle to read and write, whether this is due to dyslexia-type difficulties or simply because they have fallen behind their peers. I have trained with Dyslexia Action (formerly known as The Dyslexia Institute) and follow a structured, cumulative, multi-sensory program that is tailored to the needs of the individual learner. Higher-level reading and writing techniques appropriate to the ability of the learner are taught side-by-side with essential decoding skills.
I will teach all ages but a program of this type is likely to be particularly effective with younger children who, in my experience, find these lessons stimulating and fun.
Availability: I am available for work immediately. I am flexible with regard to day/time of lesson.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have almost 10 years experience as a mainstream English teacher and taught for two years in a Special Needs department where the curriculum was tailored to the needs of small groups of students, with an emphasis on developing literacy.
