Maths (primary, ks3, gcse, adult-learner, a-level)
I am currently an undergraduate maths student at Oxford University where I have enjoyed a unique experience of education, which I am keen to share with others. I hope to pursue a career in education, either as a maths teacher or in the charity sector, and as such I aim to get involved in teaching and learning wherever possible.
I understand that constraints such as time restictions and class sizes mean that many students aren't able to study maths at school in a way which works for them. I believe that one-to-one tuition affords students the opportunity to develop an intuitive understanding of material, which serves to lessen the requirement for rote-learning and offer a more engaging experience of a very rich and stimulating subject.
I am looking to work with all students from primary through to A-level and adult learners, including students looking to apply to study maths at university who would like some experience of university-style maths, or preparation for interviews.
Availability: Available during university vacations and happy to provide free weekly correspondence-support for tutees during term time.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Whilst at sixth form I spent time working through a structured reading scheme one-to-one with younger students, for whom literacy provided a significant barrier to academic success.
Last summer I took part in the Student Associate Scheme, run by the Westminster Institute of Education and endorsed by the Teaching Development Agency. This included lectures and a three-week placement in the maths department at the Oxford Academy School.
I am currently involved with the student run charity Jacari. Jacari tutors spend time each week working with students for whom English is a second language, in order to help them better engage with their education.
Qualifications: Currently working towards an MMath degree in Mathematics at Mansfield College, Oxford.
A-levels: Maths (A*), Further Maths (A*), Physics (A*) and Chemistry (A*)
GCSEs: 8 at A* (including Maths, Science Double Award and Enlgish Language) and 3 at A
