I am a qualified primary teacher and I offer tuition in maths and English to Key Stage 2 pupils.
I particularly enjoy working one to one with pupils as a tutor, as it offers the opportunity to focus on a child`s strengths and weaknesses in detail and to design a personalised learning program which addresses specific learning issues and often leads to accelerated progress within the subject which acts as a tremendous boost to a child`s confidence in themselves and their own abilities.
I use a range of teaching strategies to make sessions as varied as possible, these include interactive word and number games, computer programmes, flashcards and worksheets. I make learning activities relevant and challenging but also personalise them to take account of a child`s own interests. An example of this would be one child I tutored creating a report on Hannah Montana to help improve her writing skills.
I have a current Enhanced CRB disclosure certificate (issued in August 2009).
Availability: I currently have availability on some days after school. Please enquire about days and times.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have an honours degree in Psychology and Counselling (2:1) and I qualified as a teacher in 2008 (PGCE). Since then I have gained experience in a range of settings, in both secondary and primary schools as a class teacher. The main focus of my experience has been with Key Stage 2 and in particular with Year 6, although I have taught Yrs 3, 4 and 5 also and have knowledge of all areas of the National Curriculum. I have worked with children as a one to one tutor for 11 months, both in schools and as a private tutor in children`s own homes with pupils who are at Key Stage 2. I currently work at a primary school providing one to one tuition to Year 6 pupils in maths and English in preparation for their SATs tests in May. I therefore have a thorough knowledge of the requirements of Year 6 SATs tests and experience of assessing a child`s current level of ability and putting together a condensed and focused program in order to plug any gaps in learning and bring a pupil up to speed.
