Information about Philippa

I have over 25 years experience teaching and tutoring my specialist subjects at KS5 level, and have been a leader for literacy in education at a borough level. I enable students to reach and exceed their target grades but more importantly, they enjoy and often pursue further, their subjects.
(Please note- my feedback score was 5***** but one student who was not abe to have any lessons left me a 1* rating! This has affected my overall score)

My last tuttees have all met or exceeded their target grades, on many instances from moving student who have received D/E/U grades up to B/A grades. To date, in 15 years, I have yet to have a single student underachieve in one of my subjects. I have enabled many students to gain A/ Astar grades at AS/ A2 level by using my knowledge and experience and adapting it to their individual needs.

I have 15 years of teaching experience, including working as an Assistant Head Teacher in a large London Secondary school for 4 years. I have taught Master Classes at the LSE (London School of Economics) and am linked to the London Institute of Education as a Tutor for Beginning Teachers.
I have worked closely with all the major exam boards (AQA, OCR, Edexcel) either through Marking and Moderating papers, reviewing examination performance, and by attending training sessions lead by each board. The way a subject is examined by each examination board varies hugely, and I believe my knowledge and understanding of this is a key factor in enabling my success in teaching. I truly know what an examiner is looking for- and this is the support I can provide to enable you to achieve your goals. Most recently I attained the highest Politics A2 result for a student in the Borough of Camden, which was acknowledged across the local press the following day.
I am currently choosing to focus on tutoring rather than whole school teaching. Tutoring allows me to share my passion for my subject areas alongside my knowledge and understanding of the examination process, and I believe that I am truly enabling my students to achieve the very best grade possible.
I have outstanding personal Academic qualifications and a passion for ensuring my students understand their topics fully, and develop confidence in their own abilities. I strive to boost my students drive to succeed and ensure that they are ready to achieve their very best in their examination topics. I am also experienced in working with adult learners and younger students who are working towards 11 plus or entrance examinations. I have a particular interest in Literacy, and always focus on enabling my students to write outstanding essays, whether extended coursework or Undergraduate assignments, or concise examination responses.
I have specialised in teaching Social Sciences and Humanities. I have taught AS/A2 in London Secondary schools for 15 years and have tutored students on a one to one basis, or in group settings for the past 10 years. I have had consistent success with my students, most recently 2 Politics A2 students achieved A Star grades, and another 3 achieved As. I have enabled students to achieve A and B grades consistently in Politics, Psychology, Economics, History and Sociology.
I take an holistic view to teaching, and have worked with students on UCAS applications and interviews, with many of my students going on to attend Russell Group Universities, including Oxbridge and LSE this year.
I have a 2:1 degree in PPE from the University of Manchester, and have a PGCE in Humanities and Social Sciences from the London Institute of Education.
I am also an experienced Piano teacher, and can therefore offer Music tuition, and I possess a TEFL certificate.
I have trained and developed tutoring which enables students to understand and practice answering examination questions, and have worked for many years training other teachers to assist students in writing exam essays and coursework extended essays.
I will tailor my tutoring to your needs, and ensure that you are not only gaining valuable learning and support from your sessions, but that you find them enjoyable and supportive too.
Please contact me with any inquiries, I am keen and experienced to tutor at all levels and ages, and very much look forward to meeting prospective new students soon.

We have been extremely happy with the help and support Philippa has given our daughter. Our daughter has very much enjoyed attending sessions with her, my only wish is that we had found her sooner. Philippa is extremely accommodating with availability of times. Jane

Thank you Philippa for all your help! I needed help for my psychology AS as I found the subject really interesting but struggled with unit 2 a lot, as well as exam technique in general. I was working hard but got a U in my mock. Philippa tutored me for a few months and I ended up getting a B in my psychology AS. She really helped, especially with exam technique! Thanks a lot!

I paid £22 in the hope that someone who lives within 4 miles of my house would be a good match. On the first occasion we arranged to meet she had a "logistical nightmare" with children and husband and had to cancel. On the second date agreed I received an email 2 hours before saying that she had been ill very suddenly and needed to find a "walk in clinic" ....but would be in-touch with a new date. After 3 days without a response I sent a chasing email and......guess what .......10 days later and so far no response.......can I have my money back please for the disgraceful and unprofessional treatment.

Have engaged Philippa to tutor my son in A level G&P - although still "early days" have been impressed with Philippa`s professionalism and grasp of the areas that my son needs to work on. More to the point my son is enthusiastic which is a strong recommendation in itself.

Philippa helped to restore my daughter`s confidence in subjects she was struggling with, and she achieved her best grades in these subjects at GCSE. Recommended!
