I am a highly-qualified and experienced professional tutor, with a strong track record of helping students at all levels to succeed. As well as a strong academic background, my teaching is enhanced by relevant professional work experience in economics and finance.

I work with all levels of students, some who are aiming for top grades and others who just want to make sure that they do the best that they can. I can help you to build up and extend your knowledge and understanding, boost your confidence and prepare effectively for your exams. Whatever your situation, I will do my best to help you meet your personal learning needs.

I believe that the success of personal tutoring relies heavily on tutor-tutee rapport, so it is important for me to achieve a positive relationship with my students. I have a helpful, supportive approach and aim to be personable but professional at all times. I am very pleased to still be in touch with several students that I tutored in the past, and seen many of them go on to do well in further studies and successful careers.

Although it is important to follow the course content and specification, I don’t use a “one-size fits all” approach to tutoring. Every student is different, so I would always discuss with you what your specific needs are and adapt my tutoring accordingly. With my professional background and extensive teaching experience, I can provide you with the best in tutorial support for your studies.

Availability: I am available weekdays only, though have some weekend availability closer to the exam period.

Experience: I have been teaching for more than 20 years, mainly working with `A` level and university students. This included teaching on Economics and Accounting undergraduate courses at LSE and Kings College London, and teaching A level Economics at St Martins School, Solihull. I have also been working as a private tutor from home for several years.
I completed my ICAEW qualification as part of my accountancy training at KPMG, and spent 12 years as a professional economist at the Bank of England. While at the Bank I was one of the judges for the Target Two Point Zero Schools Challenge, so was closely in touch with the A level course coverage and depth. Other relevant work experience includes preparation of study materials for accounting and economics at Kaplan Financial.

Most of my experience has been in person, but for the past couple of years I have offered other forms of support such as phone calls and email exchanges, and more recently online meetings. Students often use a mix of the different methods. I also provide a review/feedback service, where I can provide comments and feedback on written work. As well as my technical background, I also have a qualification in English Language teaching so can provide writing guidance. Several students have found this helpful for writing assignments, essays and dissertations.
