I am a twenty-three year old Oxford PhD/DPhil student
I am a twenty-two year old Oxford graduate with a Double First (BA Hons) and a Masters Degree in English Language and Literature. I have a passion for tutoring and really enjoy working with students of all ages. I'm a friendly, approachable person who loves getting to know her students, and who quickly builds professional and productive relationships. Naturally competitive, ambitious and driven, I enthuse my students and am passionate about helping them realise their potential. My interests include writing, theatre, photography, genealogy and comparative religion.
I have taught essay-writing skills and English for Oxford University.
Alongside my tutoring and my studies, I've had all sorts of jobs, from freelance editing to theatre, secretarial and retail work. I cannot, however, ride a bicycle and I'm a terrible cook...
Academically, my major research interests are Shakespeare (especially performance history & criticism of the Late Plays), Oscar Wilde, and Victorian Drama more generally.
Availability: Subject to availability/negotiation, I can tutor during the week or at weekends, afternoons or evenings.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I've been tutoring in my academic subjects, 11+ preparation and EFL for four years, and got my official, accredited TEFL qualifications in Oxford in 2008. Having spent the summer teaching in a leading (and of course British Council-accredited) Oxford summer school, I am particularly enthusiastic and experienced with the 15-18 group of EFL learners. In particular, I have had a lot of Danish, Dutch, Lebanese, Russian, French and Arabic-speaking students (although I have also tutored Chinese, Korean, German, Italian, Brazilian and Serbian pupils).
My newest venture is UCAS and Oxbridge preparation, which I really, really enjoy. I am especially committed to this area of tuition having been through both processes myself. It's so important because the quality of UCAS/Oxbridge preparation varies wildly, even in the best of schools. There's no substitute for a fresh, recent perspective on the process, and - having moved from casually redrafting friends' statements to making it part of my professional life - I am confident I know exactly how to maximise you - or your child's - chances of success.
