Biology (gcse)
I was educated in Portsmouth, before moving to study at Royal Holloway, a college of the University of London. My undergraduate was a BSc Hons in Biomedical Science, coverering a range of topics and techniques. I`ve recently finished a MSc in Bioarchaeology at the University of York, and I`m now writing the papers relative to my time there.
An active and social character, I enjoy rowing, sailing, running and cycling as well as gym-training and yoga. I believe taking structured time out of studying to exercise the body to be essential to mental well-being.
Too often, teachers and students are under a lot of strain to mass-produce results, which can result in a stale teaching method that may not suit every student. I think it is important for students and their tutors to work together to identify weaknesses and find a new way of conveying the knowledge required.
When teaching, I try to abolish the classic image of a teacher simply preaching, and try to encourage a more dynamic relationship, promoting understanding of a subject, rather than monkey-see, monkey-do learning.
Availability: I`m available on weekday evenings and Weekends during the day.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I`ve got a wealth of experience teaching children. I`m an assistant dinghy instructor, the course for which focusses heavily on teaching technique. I`ve used this qualification to teach at a local sea-scout group for a number of years, ensuring that a good learning environment and high quality of teaching is maintained for children aged 10-14. I also have experience tutoring GCSE biology and chemistry.
