I am fully qualified teacher of English, History and Religious Studies with 25 years of experience, teaching both children and adults. I have a Master’s Degree in Education.
I have a relaxed, yet rigorous style of teaching which ensures that you are taught in the way that best suits your personality, learning style and abilities but still adheres to the demands of the curriculum that you have to follow. I will be led by your needs, interests and goals. As a tutor I believe that it is not just important to strive for academic success, but also to develop the skills and confidence of the learner. I also believe in making the experience fun, as most children and young people will learn quicker and more efficiently if they are enjoying themselves.

Experience: I worked in an 11-16 comprehensive school for 10 years where I taught English, History and Religious Studies up to GCSE level. As Head of Department GCSE grades improved and exceeded both the school and National average. I worked considerably with children who found learning difficult and needed extra support to achieve their full potential, and was delighted to see them growing in confidence and achieving academic success.
I have tutored in a wide range of contexts. Whilst living in France I taught English in two primary schools. I also tutored individual students preparing for the International Baccalaureate, or those wishing to improve their English for Business purposes. In England I have tutored students preparing for GCSE English and History; younger students needing support in improving their basic skills: under-graduate students studying Education or wishing to improve their essay writing skills; adults who wished to study History, Theology or Religious Studies for general interest. I also have experience training teachers both experienced and those studying for the PGCE qualification.
