Computing (degree, adult-learner)
I was first introduced to computers 19 years ago. My interest in the technology grew and I found that friends, family and work colleagues relied on me for help. Since 2000 I have specialised in computer training for “mature” learners and people with disabilities including visual impairment.
I believe that technology should be accessible to everyone. I have completed formal training; however, I am mainly self-taught and learn through trial and error. I understand the frustrations and fears that many people face when using a computer and have been told that I am a patient and empathetic tutor.
Many people buy a computer for a few specific reasons, such as Internet access, e-mail, or to keep up with modern technology and their grandchildren! I tailor lessons to the specific needs of each person and teach using everyday language. Most importantly I try to make learning easy and enjoyable.
I am a Tutor for A Helping Hand and deliver training and support throughout Kent.
For several years I have provided support and training as a tutor with UCanDoIT who teach people with sight loss, hearing impairments and other disabilities how to use computers, with a particular focus on Internet and email skills.
