Information about Karen

Patient, reliable and experienced biology tutor. I currently teach biology at a further education college. Before turning to teaching I worked for many years as a research scientist, this gave me useful experience of the practical application of the science I now teach. I have a current enhanced CRB certificate and am a member of the Institute for Learning.

I am aware that sometimes your teacher may not explain things in a way you understand and I can formulate my approach to specifically suit your learning style.

I am available during school hours only and am ideally qualified to tutor college students studying for Access to Higher Education or BTEC National diploma. I can help you to understand the material and guide you in your completion of assignments. I use innovative, interactive resources and ICT where appropriate to make the subject interesting and accessible.

I am also able to tutor general science and maths to GCSE and human biology AS and A2. For these exam subjects as well as improving your understanding of the material I can help you to improve your exam technique and practice past papers.

Availability: I am not currently taking on any new students.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have worked as a private tutor in the past, teaching maths & science GCSE, chemistry and biology AS level and KS3 science. All my students improved their grades and I found that I was easily able to find more work by word of mouth.

My teaching experience at the college includes the physiology unit of the Access to Health Professions course as well as biology units of the level 3 BTEC National Diplomas in Applied Science and in Health and Social Care (e.g. human inheritance, human physiology and anatomy).

Qualifications: PGCE (further education)
PhD in molecular biology
BSc (Hons) 2.1 in biochemistry
A' levels in chemistry, physics and maths (A grades)
