Information about Josephine

Why me?

As an experienced CRB checked private tutor and ex-History of Art teacher, I am sympathetic to the unique pressures of History of Art AS and A2 Levels. I approach the syllabus according to the needs of the individual and approach the requirements of the exam board imaginatively.

I have broad experience in teaching and tutoring History of Art over the past 6 years. I have assisted students in raising their grades and gaining access to the universities of their choice.

What can I do for you?

Hone visual analysis skills into articulate and precise observation
Improve your essay writing style
Assist with efficient and productive exam technique
Incorporate your subjective engagement with art into your writing
Aid understanding of and discrimination between different periods
Contextualise what you learn at school with the bigger picture
Take individuals and groups on gallery tours to discuss the works you study
Advise on personal statements/interview technique/articulating your passion for Art History
Provide university, Oxbridge, Courtauld and IVY League preparation and support.

Availability: As I am freelance I have a great deal of availability and flexibility.

Willing to travel: 30 miles

Experience: Over the past six years I have taught History of Art, assisted students take AS and A2 independently and provided tutoring. I have helped students gain History of Art places at Cambridge, The Courtauld Institute, Edinburgh, SOAS, Bristol, York, Princeton and Yale among others. I have worked with a diversity of abilities, students gaining up to A* in my History of Art classes.

I have a range of experience, from 8 year - 18 year old students. My expertise lies in History of Art - A-Level, university entry, university support (BA and MA), although I have taught English, History and Classical Civilisation in the past.

I can tutor online via Skype and provide versatile remote support.

Qualifications: I have been passionate about the history of art since I chose my A Level subjects. Having achieved straight As at AS and A Level with a Distinction in AEA English, I read History of Art at Cambridge, achieving a 2.1, and continued my studies with a Masters at The Courtauld Institute, from which I graduated this July and gained a Merit.

I spend my time in the national collections, galleries and emerging artistic spaces, communicating with artists, participating in new initiatives, panel discussions, curating exhibitions and writing reviews. I have travelled extensively and visited many of the many respected museums and artistic destinations. I also have a diverse range of professional experience in the art world.

I am a co-Director of a London gallery, where we run an education programme, including **What Next?**

**What Next?** is designed to teach students everything they don`t tell you at school/university about a career in the arts. You might be interested to join us for one of the July or August slots in preparation for internships/work experience or even an arts job in a few years.

We`re also staging an 8-week History of Art evening course in the Autumn, which will be a brief but substantial overview from Antiquity to contemporary art in 16 hours! Quite a speedy whizz through, but we have heard so people mention that they wished they had studied art history, that we thought it was time to remedy it...

Please do not hesitate to contact me for more details of these courses.
