I`ve been teaching A level Economics, Business Studies and Accounting in a sixth form college for 18 years most recently as Head of Business Studies. I`m an enthusiastic teacher and like to use topical examples to illustrate lessons. I enjoy working with students of all abilities forming positive and productive relationships. In addition to my main subjects I`ve also been a pastoral tutor overseeing university applications and personal statements.
I also have experience working with students with specific learning needs.
My approach to tutoring is to try and help the student to identify their own clear targets and helping them to understand what they need to do to reach them.

Tutoring generally works most effectively when students do additional work on their own. I encourage this and provide individual feedback often using past paper questions.

My students usually achieve very good grades and are usually able to take up their first choice university offers.

PS I`m mostly known by my second name (John) so if you use my first name I may mistake you for a call centre!

Cancellation of exams this summer means I now have spaces in my diary. On line lessons can be arranged if you are worried about the spread of the virus and while students are out of school I can help keep them on track for a return to normality.

Currently available by arrangement either daytime or evenings. The basic lesson fee of £40 per hour includes travel up to 15 miles. An additional amount will be agreed for longer distances.

Experience: I`ve been teaching business related subjects for over twenty years in addition to previous business experience in banking, sales and running a small business. My recent experience has been as a head of department firstly in a sixth form college and most recently in a comprehensive school.
Since 2014 I’ve worked with many students most of whom contacted me through Tutor Hunt. Almost without exception those students have gone to their first choice universities having achieved better grades than they’d expected. Regular tutoring increased their confidence and led to them working more effectively. One to one guidance also helped them to improve their exam technique and fill gaps in their knowledge and understanding.
