I`m Jennifer, I`m 25 and currently living in Birkenhead whilst studying for a two-year PGCE in Chemistry. I recently completed an undergraduate degree in Forensic Science which I thoroughly enjoyed and attained a very high 2.1 classification with honours.
I`ve always wanted to teach and have always had a passion for science. I`m enthusiastic, easy-going and approachable with the desire to get others interested in the subject. I have rather a lot of experience tutoring before and believe it to be very rewarding and beneficial - to both me and the students involved and find it exceptional when pupils go on to succeed in the area. I have also recently become involved in a mentoring scheme through my university involving me providing tutoring services for pupils in a number of local secondary schools that are either disadvantaged and/or struggling or falling behind enabling me to gain a much greater degree of specific experience and better cater to improving my own tutoring sessions. I am available for tutoring small groups or individuals any evening or afternoon and am willing to take pupils of any ability/level.
My degree was focussed mainly in Biology and Chemistry so will accept students up to university level (including adults wishing to learn) however I have some experience teaching Physics also so would be happy to work with students in that area up to GCSE level.
Availability: I`m available any afternoon or evening Monday - Sunday and am willing (in certain circumstances/cases) to also tutor on a weekend.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: During the final year of my undergraduate degree I volunteered in a number of schools as a classroom assistant (including an all girls school and an EBD) where I was involved quite actively in the tuition of pupils - particularly those who appeared to be struggling or had concerns themselves regarding specific parts of the syllabus.
In June and July I also took part in the Student Associates Scheme during which I worked at local Liverpool secondary school as a classroom assistant and trainee teacher - assisting in the lessons, providing support for the teacher and the class along with planning and leading a number of lessons myself. One of my favourite parts during my placement was volunteering with the pupils who were classed as having English as an additional language as I provided one-to-one tuition particularly in science as they had received no formal education previously in the area. I provided a number of worksheets and team-tasks to encourage them to not only get a better grasp on the language but to try and encourage an interest in science by relating it to things they were familiar with.
I very much enjoy teaching and want nothing more than to help pupils learn.
Qualifications: Foundation Degree in Natural Sciences from Liverpool John Moores University followed by a BSc (hons) in Forensic Science.
(In Progress) Graduate diploma in Chemistry for Intending Teachers.
(In Progress) PGCE Chemistry.
