Information about James

I study Medicine at the University of Bristol, currently in my second year. In my time off from studying I play guitar and a new sport called Ultimate Frisbee which I`ve just started since coming to Bristol. I`m really enjoying university life and Bristol, finding there is always something new to try or another society to get involved in, learning the balance between staying on top of work and making the most of my time here

Availability: Weekdays and Weekends, Morning and Evening, but would be negotiated due to my timetable

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have tutored several GCSE students as well as two year 9 students for their Key Stage 3 exams in Physics, Maths and Chemistry. I also have plenty of experience with babysitting and child-minding and spent 6 months of my year before university working for a charity called Scripture Union in New Zealand as a youth intern, which involved a lot of work in schools both with children with a privileged background and children from poorer families.
In terms of my approach the first thing is to find out where your son or daughter is at in their understanding. Particularly with sciences it is far better to understand concepts that just practice rope learning. I can`t teach every question that may come up, but I always aim for the young person I`m tutoring to be able to explain back to me the theory or concept they struggle with, in their own words, which means they will always understand it and shouldn`t be surprised if a question is worded slightly differently to what they are used to. Sometimes it just takes one small principle to be misunderstood for an entire topic to seem daunting, so a lot of tutoring requires finding these problems, explaining them in different ways and allowing the student to ask their questions.
