James is a noted teacher and has developed an extensive knowledge based in well regarded vocal methodology. This includes advanced knowledge of Kodaly, Dalcroze Eurythmics, Alexander Technique and Bel Canto approaches Speech Level Singing, the Morganix Method, Vocal Process (Teacher Training) and Estill Voice Techniques. Voice work also includes the approaches of Manen, Miller, Marchesi, Vaccai and McKinney.
He has been recognised Nationally with a number of Awards, been judged to be consistently outstanding by Ofsted and received both the qualification of Advanced Skills Teacher and Fellow of the Guild of Musicians and Singers.
He currently works as a Voice Teacher, consulting for various Performing Arts institutions and Speech Therapy groups. His teaching work includes a range of Singing and Speech teaching, as well as Speech and Language support work within schools and educational settings. He is an AST with Birmingham LEA, developing vocal work and singing within numerous schools, Singing Champion for Birmingham and a Schools Assessor for Arts Award and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. In addition to his teaching work, James also continues to work as a vocal Tenor (Opera and Musical Theatre).
He maintains a successful private practice, with a specialist focus on Singing, Vocal Pedagogy, Speech and Voice Rehabilitation. His students come from a range of backgrounds. His Singers have gone on to work widely and study in Music Colleges and Conservatoires. As a vocal rehabilitator he has successfully re-built many voices and worked to address functional speech difficulties in a range of clients, or simply develop better speech.
James has a special interest in Functional Speech Difficulties (Stammering and Lisping) and has completed specialist study in voice therapy within this area.
