Information about Holly

I started private tutoring 6 years ago when I was a Psychology & Music student at Royal Holloway (University of London). I went to a good grammar school (Kendrick Grammar) where I specialised in Music (saxophone and piano) and achieved grade 8 aged 14. I started voluntary youth counselling when I was 17 and have nearly reached registered status as a counsellor after many years of training! I also started working with children at 17 as a playworker for local schools and voluntary mentor for the Children`s Opportunity Group. I continued in youth sector roles through my counselling training and university education so tutoring young people in subjects I was confident in seemed natural. Studying developmental psychology at degree level also equipped me with the knowledge of how and what young people are able to learn through their progressive stages of development, and I draw on this when teaching/tutoring.

I love working with people to develop them to their full potential so currently teach to classes (specialist PPA cover) and individuals. My method is friendly, patient, encouraging and supportive. As a trained counsellor, I`m aware that creating a positive environment tends to bring out the best in anyone.

With more than a decade`s experience of working with children in paid and voluntary roles, I am trained in Emergency Paediatric First Aid as well as Health and Safety and child protection. I have students ranging from primary school age to adulthood.

Experience: I`ve been a peripatetic music teacher, private tutor and specialist school classroom teacher for 6 years. I cover all primary school subjects including entrance exams, psychology and music at secondary level and saxophone and piano for private music lessons.

My students have achieved:

-Distinctions at all levels for graded music performance and theory exams.

-Entrance into grammar and private schools.

-Raised Psychology and Music AS/A-Level grades from fails (pre-tuition) to A-C grades.

- Significantly improved numeracy and literacy for SATs assessments.

- Most importantly, I aim for my students to enjoy their lessons, feel comfortable with me and their subjects. Hopefully that builds their confidence on the way!

Holly is an amazing and attentive teacher. She made the lessons fun while making sure I kept making constant progress. She also helped me with my own lyrics by composing music to it. I can highly recommend

Terrible. Didn`t turn up all the time and didn`t let us know. Lots of personal problems . Then just never came back two weeks before the exam at a very important time.

Holly has just started tutoring our daughter (twice so far) and we are more than pleased with how things are going, she has a relaxed and friendly approach and our daughter is very comfortable with her.
