SUCCESSFUL FULL TIME PRIVATE TUTOR - MANY REFERENCES - BSc (HONS) BIOLOGY - UNIVERSITY OF ST ANDREWS
-------------------------

After graduating with a BSc (Hons) Biology from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, I moved back to Oxfordshire where I began working as a private tutor.

I enjoy a wide variety of sports and regularly partake in physical events for charity; in recent years I have done half-marathons and the Three Peaks Challenge, and I plan to do another half-marathon in November as well as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in March 2012.

I like to tailor each tutoring session to meet the individual needs of the client; whether that means spending an hour improving understanding of a particular topic, going through practice questions or devising a revision plan to help with exams. I appreciate that everyone learns in different ways and have found that 1:1 tuition and a fresh perspective can help unblock troublesome topics and lead to an improvement in grades as well as self-confidence in the classroom.

ONLINE TUTORING: This has been a great success, not only can lessons be more flexible as travel-time is cut out but there are no travel costs and tuition can take place even when students are abroad. I typically email the tutee a Word document containing detailed notes and diagrams on a specific topic which we then discuss together via internet video-phone. This is a way of doing free video calls via the internet. As well as this, I often send short videos that can help explain difficult topics more easily. I will also email a selection of relevant exam questions which we can do together, or which the tutee can do at home in their own time. We then mark these together using the official exam mark schemes so that the tutee know exactly what examiners are looking for in an answer.

Availability: Weekdays, evenings and weekends

Experience: I began tutoring in 2007 and am now tutoring full time. I am currently assisting university students with dissertations, coursework and exams, as well as providing coursework guidance and exam preparation for a number of A-Level and GCSE students.

I have a full set of exam questions available, complete with official mark schemes for Geography and Biology, as well as a large selection of case studies for the different Geography modules.

EXAM RESULTS:
January 2010 - the biggest improvement is a student moving from a D to an A grade in Biology A-Level
August 2010 results are outstanding - most students improved by at least one grade, and several students moved up by two or more grades.
Exam results for January 2011 have been a success with one student moving from a U to an A!
Great results for August 2011 - top result this time was a Geography student who moved from a D to A*, with one mark off full marks!

Please give 24 hours notice for any cancellations by phone, otherwise I will need to charge 50% to cover costs.
Please email me any work to be marked at least 24 hours before the tutoring session to ensure I have enough time to read it through thoroughly.
