Having completed an Undergraduate and Master's degree in philosophy, I am now seeking a career in education with the intention of teaching as much philosophy as I can, not least so that I have more people to talk to about it. I aim to spend this year tutoring and then start a PGCE next September.
My sessions vary in style depending on the needs of the student. I can act simply as a homework guide if need be but I can also provide full scale teaching of a syllabus. Usually my sessions are discussion based, with a focus on getting the student to do most of the talking. I will set tasks and activities along with providing regular assessments but I tend to insist that these be completed outside of our sessions. I may even threaten to make the sessions fun, and of course, I'll provide the biscuits if you provide the tea.
-The content of my sessions can involve the following:
-Teaching of fresh subject material so that it can be understood and discussed
-Revision of old subject material
-Assistance with revision technique
-Assistance with exam technique
-Assistance with school homework or coursework
-Assistance with UCAS application forms

Experience: I have acquired over 100 hours of tuition experience since January, mainly in Philosophy tuition, but also in RS, English and Maths.
My 3 philosophy students all got As at AS Level this year, and my 2 Religious Studies students achieved an A and an A* at GCSE level.
I also taught English and Maths at Key Stages 2,3 and 4 at Wellfield Education Centre from February 2010 - August 2010. Currently I am working at Stormont House School, a Special Needs school in Hackney.
