I`m a friendly tutor with a PhD in English from the University of Toronto. I took my BA at Cambridge, receiving a double first and several academic prizes. I have recently returned to the UK from Canada.
During the last academic year, I worked as a sessional professor at the University of Toronto, teaching three courses (one third-year BA, two first-year). I also have experience tutoring secondary-school students.
At U of T, I assisted with undergraduate admissions for a prestigious humanities foundation programme. As a result, I can give parents and students an insight into what university admissions tutors are looking for.
I am also familiar with the English education system, having attended the Haberdashers` Aske`s School for Boys in Elstree (where I attained 3 A-grades at A-level and 1 A at AS-level).
I can offer tuition in a number of the humanities. I can also offer specialist help with academic writing. I have taught an introductory first-year undergraduate writing course and have worked as a senior tutor in a university writing centre. I can explain points of grammar, punctuation and style clearly and comprehensively. As a published author (with both academic and mainstream presses), I can also show you how to make that essay shine!
I`m an approachable and enthusiastic educator. I received excellent student evaluations for my teaching at Toronto. One recent student remarked: "[Chris] clearly was interested and passionate about [his] subject matter. Also, [he] was very helpful, engaging, and kind!". Another wrote that my "very detailed comments" on her work were extremely helpful.
