I am a PhD student who was not happy at school and was only saved in education by a marvelous teacher. I went from wanting to leave school at 16 to getting full marks in most modules of A2 English, History, Politics, and AS Economics and Latin, a First in an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Language at King's College London, and a Distinction in an MA in History and English. It all stemmed from the help of one teacher who inspired confidence and excited me about learning. As my university career developed, I realised how much fun I had working with young students; although I teach university seminars throughout the year, I like to work with individual students too, as I am able to focus entirely upon that person's needs and particular interests.
Tutoring Approach: I tailor my lessons according to the student's needs, personality and their required approach: I can either work in an academically demanding and serious manner, or can emphasise learning through play, experience and diversity, and even fun! The approach I use for helping a student with entrance to Oxbridge is very different to the ways I encourage and support a disaffected child or teen struggling with a skill or in a particular subject. It is also important to establish the student's most receptive learning method, for which I have various quick tests, establishing whether to emphasise the visual, aural or kinaesthetic learning, or to use a combination of all three.
Availability: Plenty of availability during the day and evening, as the time I spend working on my thesis is flexible.

Experience: Tutoring Experience: I teach every year at Heathfield Summer School, working with students from 8 to 18 years old of as many as twenty-five different nationalities from across the globe. Not only do I have fun working with the younger groups, from beginner to advanced level English speakers, I also teach a pre-university course that incorporates history, literature, geography, and science. I hold the Inglis Prize at King's College London University, awarded for receiving the highest Masters grade in the year; it entails teaching undergraduates in the English Department.
During the rest of the year, I have a number of private students and teach or have taught English, History and Politics to GCSE and A Level; Geography, Biology, and Chemistry to GCSE; and Maths to Common Entrance levels, in addition to a range of study skills. I have also had experience working with students with ADHD, ADD, Asperger's and dyslexia of varying degrees.
I have kept all my school work, including revision notes, from Year 9 upwards, which can be very helpful for students who need assistance approaching revision, or who wish to read examples of essays.
