Information about Emily
I adapt the way I tutor to meet the needs of the individual. For some I explain new subjects and relate them to concepts the student already understands. For others we go through a piece of work and I listen carefully to apprehend what the student already knows and ask them questions to allow them to work out the bits of information they are missing.
For exam success the student has to have both the knowledge and the ability to understand the questions and apply the knowledge. I have extensive experience in helping students understand the different types of questions in the examination paper and how to use key words and terms to ensure they answer the questions effectively.
As a Dyslexic student myself I understand how students learn in different ways. I teach using metaphors and pictures and I encourage students to try different methods of learning such as using spider diagrams and bullet points or lists. I understand that younger students have a shorter concentration span. I use a variety of teaching methods (including games and teaching aids such as coins) to keep the learning fun and change the subject often to keep the student engaged.
With 3 years practical experience of Chemistry and 7 years studying at degree level I am also able to help students with the practical work and study skills.
Confidence is an important aspect to learning and I teach with a system of positive reinforcement, encouraging the student to gain independence in their studies.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like any further information or references.

We have just engaged Emily to help our daughter with maths and science. Based on a couple of sessions, she seems really nice and has connected well. She`s friendly and punctual and polite, so all looks very promising.

Emily is always prompt, she takes her time to evaluate my sons ability, and bring variation to her tutoring, she is patient and my son relaxes in her company, she is able to hold his concentration which is no mean feat!
