Geography (primary, ks3, gcse, degree, adult-learner, a-level)
I am a qualified geography teacher who graduated in 2010 from Lancaster University with a 2:1 in Geography specialising in environmental change and sustainability. I then went on to complete a PGCE at the University of Cumbria with a final grading of outstanding. I am now looking to establish myself as a private tutor.
Availability: I am available at weekends and on weekday evenings.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have worked in a variety of different educational settings with a wide range of educational needs. Whilst at university I provided one to one tuition to younger university students in a variety of geographical areas with emphasis on both human and physical strands of the subject. I have taught geography and citizenship at a well performing grammar school to KS3, KS4 and KS5 pupils and previously to this I taught geography in a comprehensive school to KS3 and KS4 pupils. I have extensive experience of working with pupils with addition education needs including work with students to whom English is an additional language and one to one work with pupils with special educational needs.
I have developed and implemented study skills groups for pupils starting secondary school and revising for their exams. I have also given seminars on university study skills aimed at A level pupils looking for a head start when they go to university.
I have created sustainability workshops for both children and adults. These crash courses on sustainability are aimed at pupils and students who struggle with the complex nature of the subject and adults who simply wish to learn more about one of the biggest issues facing society today.
I believe that inspiration is key to the learning process. The key aim of my tutoring is for my student to leave the session with an increased confidence in the subject and it is through this that success will soon follow. I use a variety of different methods and resources in my teaching often incorporating drama and art into the learning process.
I am sympathetic to the fact that each individual has different needs and expectations from tutoring and I tailor each tutoring session for the individual student. I ask each student to fill out a questionnaire looking at how they are comfortable learning in order that this can be achieved. I am also aware that some students find the idea of private tutoring somewhat daunting and so am pleased to offer group sessions at a reduced price (Please contact for more details)
I have a wide variety of resources available including past exam papers and mark schemes, geography case study materials and revision aids. I also have a wide variety of text books available for loan if required.
