Information about Elisa

In spring 2009 I set up my own private tuition company specialising in tutoring students in English Language and Literature at GCSE, AS, A2 and Degree level.

Now, as a full-time tutor, I am delighted to say that I have gained a wealth of experience and success in guiding students through their various curricula and examinations. I tutor across a range of ages and abilities, including: Common Entrance Examinations (13+), GCSEs and A-Level. I'm absolutely thrilled to say that in this summer's (2010) GCSE examinations alone, 90% of my students rose from a grade ‘C’, to a grade ‘A’ in English Literature and Language in just three terms' tuition.

Whilst grades are important, my primary concern is to ensure that each and every student realises his or her full potential, not only in terms of academic achievement, but also in terms of confidence, motivation and self-esteem. The advantage of private tuition is that you are able to explore student's needs on a one-to-one basis, enabling and inspiring them to positively re-engage with topics with which they may have previously struggled in a way that is simply not possible in a classroom.

I am very lucky to say that I absolutely adore my job and have a genuine passion for my subject; this is something I hope to pass on to each and every student. (I can testify that I have even witnessed 16 year old boys becoming enthusiastic about Jane Eyre after a few lessons!)

BACKGROUND

I have always had a passion for English Language, and in 2006 I graduated at the top of my year with a Masters in Forensic Linguistics from the world's leading institute for Forensic Linguistic Postgraduate Study at Cardiff University. This highly scholastic MA provided me with the opportunity to focus on pioneering research into the study of ‘language crimes’, plagiarism, author attribution/exclusion, blackmail, extortion, threats, and copyright infringement. Prior to my Postgraduate studies I previously attained a BA Hons Degree in English Language, providing me with a sound understanding of traditional linguistic theory and analysis.

Whether you are looking for intensive tuition in preparation for particular examinations, or weekly sessions to build core skills over a number of months or years, please do not hesitate to contact me.

As a matter of course I provide a free 30 minute telephone consultation with any parent considering one-to-one tuition. It is important to me that that all of your questions are answered and that we can discuss your child's needs in depth.

Availability: I am extremely flexible and am available to tutor weekdays, (during the day and after school) as well as weekends. I have a very lovely home in the heart of Montpellier overlooking Montpellier Gardens, and tutor the majority of students from here. I am also able to travel to a student's house at standard mileage rates.

Please do contact me if you have any questions at all.

"I taught and supervised Elisa when she took our MA in Forensic Linguistics in the academic year 2005-2006. I was impressed instantly with her ability and enthusiasm in class. Her results for the first semester were exemplary. I have rarely seen such a fine performance, when students have to adapt to the higher level of MA work, and these results are testament to her true academic ability.

Throughout her life Elisa has overcome extraordinary adversity to do very well at both school and university. She is resourceful, determined and able, and deserves to do exceptionally well. I am happy to give her my full support.”

"My son has made significant improvement in his time with Elisa. His development has been highlighted by greater confidence with his studies; whether it be written, oral or reading communication. The short space of time with Elisa during his GCSE's has led to major improvements in his coursework, moving from C grade assignments to A grade, which has strengthened his position prior to his GCSE's. The preparation for GCSE examinations in terms of revision has been unparalleled; he has been instilled with a confidence which has been reflected in his examination performance and taken away any pre-exam jitters.

I would highly recommend others to take advantage of Elisa's natural ability to teach and enable your child to be placed in a strong position for their studies.

“Elisa is friendly and professional. She takes her role as tutor very seriously. She is thoroughly prepared for each session and has the ability to build confidence in her pupils. In my daughter’s case Elisa had not tutored for this particular exam board before as it was tailored to the South African curriculum, and so Elisa made it her job to find out exactly what the syllabus covered and the marking scheme. She is completely open and honest about the number of sessions the pupil may require and is willing to be flexible with location which is a big help.

I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you for all the work you put in with Hannah, she was absolutely delighted with her results."

CASE STUDIES

The case studies below represent a sample of those students tutored:

STUDENT A - had not attended school for 10 months due to ill-health. She was hoping to gain an AS-Level in English Language in order to attend University in South Africa. We were given just ten weeks to prepare for the examination. It was my task to tutor the student the entire syllabus as she was not attending any form of full-time schooling. I was able to devise an intensive, yet highly concise programme of study that involved just three hours of tutoring per week.

The student not only passed her examinations after just ten weeks of tuition, but she attained an ‘A’ grade in both papers.
She is currently studying at University in South Africa. The student developed such a love of English during her short period of tutoring, that she has since changed her degree major in order to continue studying Linguistics.

STUDENT B - came to me three months before his GCSE English examinations having failed both his English Literature and English Language mock examinations, with grades of ‘E’ and ‘F’. In order to gain a place in the sixth form he needed to achieve a ‘C’ grade pass in both examinations.

Following three months of tuition of just two hours a week, he achieved a grade ‘C’ pass in both of his examinations. Indeed had he not been grouped in the lower tier following his mock examination results, I have no doubt that he would have attained a ‘B’ grade.

STUDENT C - had been predicted a ‘C’ grade in both English Language and Literature GCSE examinations. His mother felt he was lacking enthusiasm for the subject, and was therefore in danger of falling behind in many of his essay-based subjects.

After just three months of tuition at one hour per week, he has developed a new-found enthusiasm for both English Literature and Language. He thoroughly enjoys the sessions, and his school has recently predicted that he will achieve a grade ‘A’ in his examinations next year.
