Information about Eleanor

Hi!

My name is Eleanor (Ellie) and I`m 24 years old. Four years ago I graduated from Oxford University and was awarded a 2.1 in my BA in History. I studied at the Lycée Francais Charles de Gaulle in London where I was educated in the French section until the age of 13 and the British section from GCSEs until the end of my A levels. I speak French fluently and have the advantage of having learned both English and French from a young age.

For the past four years I have been tutoring regularly in the Oxford and London area.

This year I have tutored children aged 5 to 18 largely in French, English and History.

I have 2 years experience tutoring the 11+ exam - with fantastic results to top London schools.

I also help with Oxbridge applications - this year, my tutee was awarded a place at LMH Oxford to study History.

I`m hardworking and hands on, and I want to make tutoring as beneficial but also as fun as possible! Friendly and approachable, I was elected welfare officer at university and for my college.

My approach to tutoring:

Learning doesn`t always mean long hours and boring books. There are ways of approaching topics which make them so much more interesting and stimulating but I`ve found that a lot of the students I have taught haven`t had the confidence to look at their subject in a different way. I try and encourage them to do so - considering new arguments and new debates.

I recognise how hard it can be to express your ideas and opinions in writing, and how difficult it can be to write and structure an essay! My university education honed my ability to organise ideas simply and honestly - I strive to give my students the confidence to formulate their points and give justice to their ideas on paper.

Availability: Very flexible hours. I can do evenings/daytime throughout the week as well as weekends

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have tutored:

Higher level French
A level French
GCSE French
Beginners French
A level English
A level History
11+ Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning
11+ Maths
11+ English Comprehension and Creative writing
8+ English Comprehension and Creative writing

Both online and in person.

This past year I have worked upward of 150 hrs and feel capable, confident and experienced.

Ellie is such a great tutor! Ellie helped me in interview preparation for Cambridge and discussed sources as well as essays and general History questions with me. Ellie gave me support and advice throughout the process and I definitely felt much more confident going in to my interviews!

Ellie is very friendly and approachable. My daughter Katie felt at ease from the first meeting.Katie`s confidence in her ability to get through the Oxford admission process had grown and she her just had her first history essay marked since Ellie started tutoring her and she has improved from borderline A to an A* so we are very pleased.
