Information about David

A former Local Education Authority Adviser and currently a Management Consultant specialising in Schools. Also, a currently practising (part time) Teacher (GTCE and QTS status), CRB, with over 38 years experience in both the maintained and independent Schools.

My skills and knowledge levels are current in Tutoring students at GCSE, "AS" and "A2"-Levels, in preparation for AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR examination boards, including Salters and Nuffield. I aim to clearly and simply explain the "nerdy" type concepts in Physics, which many students do find very difficult to understand.

I offer empathetic, "one to one tuition" , to students at key stages 3,4 and 5 in the Sciences, including Psychology. I can also offer Geography,Law and Sociology at "AS" and "A2" Levels.

Excepting twins, I normally only take one student at a time!

I can help students to gain confidence within themselves and, within their innate abilities, by helping them to more easily understand the Scientific/other concepts which may cause difficulties. I help students to overcome exam phobia and to enjoy tuition by making them comfortable and relaxed with the learning experience. Many students present with aversion to their chosen subject but soon come to be desensitized to the stress of examination dogma and, to relish studying the subject. I have a verifiable track record of helping students of very wide abilities and, with disabilities including dyslexia, to achieve realistic personally attainable grades, at GCSE and A-Level.

Excepting disabled students, lessons normally take place at my home. The reason for this is that I have an enormous number of resources including IT items which I could not possibly transport to a students dwelling place. I am willing to consider a reasonable adjustment in respect of visiting disabled students. Parents/guardians are welcome to wait in my ( "very comfortable lounge") lounge during the tuition period... and frequently do so. I can provide a small table for parents to work on and plug in facilities for lap tops et al. All my lessons last 75 minutes.

a quote borrowed from an unsolicited reference from a grateful parent, whose daughter attended for three years.

A - Level resit students are welcome providing that they can justify their commitment by showing academic application following each personal tutoring session.

I also offer and regularly provide, Tutoring to Mature students including recent graduates who are wishing to update their skills in the subjects offered.

Students tend to come to me from a very wide geographical catchment area, with some making a round trip of almost 60 miles.

I offer an initial trial lesson, at the fees shown, without obligation. There is no contract and no agency fees. The emphasis is on informallity and making students comfortable and "at home". If students are happy to come on a regular basis, then we can arrange suitable weekly slots as appropriate. I am within reason flexible in rescheduling if the need arises. I fully understand that unpredictable events such as illness, injury, bereavements, monthlies et al, do require a flexible approach to Personal Tuition.

Excepting twins, I only take one student at a time. This ensures" one to one empathetic tuition."

Realising that students work better when "fed", I provide free light refreshments to taste. If students are arriving post 17-30, I can provide a nutritious light, cooked meal. My aim is to make students very welcome, comfortable and able to devote all their energies to study, in a very user friendly environment. It is important that students feel that they are getting the benefit of one to one Tuition.

Availability: All Personal Tuition slots normally last 75 minutes.

You will only be charged for 60 minutes. All students normally have 75 minutes tuition. This is to ensure that students do not feel that they are under presssure, (working to a clock time and perhaps feeling that they are on a production line!), giving us both, time to discuss problems, strategy and progress to date. We may simply recap on the previous lesson.I ask and expect Students to spend 2 to 3 hour revisiting the work that we have covered and, often this involves attempting structured questions relating to the concepts being studied.

I am now (subject to my consultancy committments) available from 08-30 to 19-00 hrs Monday to Friday and from 08-30 to 09-45 hrs on Saturdays. Some year 13 Sixth form students are now coming during the "School day".

Regarding Saturdays, The 08-30 to 09-45 hrs, 10__00 to 11-15 and 11-30 to 12-45 hrs slot are now avaialble.

Immediate availability: until 23/05/2012.

The normal timetable is NOW in a state of flux arising from the start of the examination season. Pease contact me for current availability.

Please contact me for availability. Please also remember that unfortunately, slots are allocated normally on a "first come first served basis". Sadly because students are now doubling up and sometimes tripling up on some sessions, I have very few slots remaining. Please telephone me for availability. I will always try and squeeze students in at short notice, but... there are only so many hours in a day!

Currently no Monday slots remain available.

On Tuesdays the 17-30 to 18-45 hrs is now available.

On Wednesday the 16-00 to to 17-15 hrs slots is now available

On Thursday the 13-00 to 14-15 hrs slot is available.

On Friday... before School" slots may still be available from about 08-30 to 14-00 hrs. The 16-00 to 17-15 hrs slot is NOT now available Please contact me to check. The situation is quite fluid and may change from week to week.

"One off" catch up lessons on Sundays, School and Bank Holidays may be possible by special arrangement. Some students from boarding Schools may book two consecutive 75 minutes slots, on several days over Christmas/Easter in order to "hone up" their examination practice skills.

Extra tuition sessions may be booked over the Christmas and Easter Holidays to deal with any "surgery type sessions"

Generally Personal Tuition sessions are available during the School Holidays by appointment.

Experience: As stated, over 37.5 years of teaching experience in both Maintained and Independent/International Schools. I tutor students from Schools such as King Henry VIII, Bablake, KES, Warwick School, Kings High, Kingsley,Kenilworth Castle Sixth Form, Finham, Coundon Court, North Leamington College et al. A track record of effectively teaching the 3 main Sciences up to A - Level. Specialising in making difficult concepts simple and making students confident in their approach to the examination(s) in question.

I have considerable experience in helping students with dyslexia to develop coping strategies enabling them to better fulfill their academic potential. My patient, empathetic and repetitive systematic approach to explaining difficult concepts, takes account of the vital need to help dyslexic students to make conceptual links, often by using humorous methods which the "hardwiring" of our brains is innately better suited to remembering.

My experience covers preparing students for KS3, 4,5 and 6. I can provide personal tuition for students sitting for AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR and WJEC examination Boards. Many of my students have to varying degrees forms of dyslexia

Currently, my longest attending students have recently(sadly!) left me after 2 years of personal tuition and should be going to their chosen Universities, in October of this year.

I am happy to mention that most of the students who studied with me, last academic year (10), have attained their first or second choice Universities,if in their first year of sixth form studies or GCSE resultee students, have attained their desired grades. One student attained A in all 3 Science GCSE level and has returned to commence "AS" Biology and Chemistry.

I am also happy to mention that one of my students from the acadedmic year ending June 09, has exceeded his predicted grades so dramatically, that he has reapplied to read Dentistry and has now been accepted onto the course, starting this September. Although a year since then, he has recently contacted me to update me on his progress and indeed of his twin Sister who also studied with me.

For the academic year ending June 2010, one female student has achieved the desired grades to gain entry to Medical School and commences at the end of September.

Each year, I am humbled to be the recipient of unsolicited testimonials/thank you cards, from grateful students. Many of these students keep in touch, each term, appraising me of their progress.

Mr Chitty is an excellent tutor, teaching in a extremely thorough, clear and concise manner. His approach is very systematic, he guides his pupils and teaches in a way that appeals to all, making theories and science relevant to everyday situations. I would highly recommend Mr Chitty.
