Biology (gcse, a-level)
Chemistry (gcse, degree, adult-learner, a-level)
I am currently a chemistry PhD student at Cambridge, having had 7 years of experience working as a research chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. I graduated from University of Leeds with a 1st class MChem Medicinal Chemistry degree.
I have become an experienced tutor during my time at Leeds as well as at Pfizer Pharmaceutical, having regularly tutored and mentored students and junior colleagues. I have also 3 years experience as a voluntary link scientist to a local school where my role was to stimulate pupils` interests in science. I can teach one-to-one as well as small groups. With my industrial background, I can relate academia to industry and hence can offer career advice in the science sector.
I am enthusiastic and passionate about chemistry (and biology) and believe tuition should be tailored to the individual`s ability and interests. In particular I try to help build students` confidence in approaching areas that they are struggling with from basic principles and applying them. I can relate to students` difficulties in grasping certain concepts because I have been through the same before and have often developed different methods in explaining difficult concepts. I will ask questions along the way to engage students to problem solve. I love to teach my students from the very basics and work out their problems step by step.
My first lesson will typically involve assessing the student`s needs and level of understanding, and then drawing up a concise and realistic tuition plan.
Please get in touch with me if you want to discuss this further or sign up for a trial lesson.
