I am a graduate from Cambridge University where I studied English Literature at Trinity Hall, winning the Cressingham Prize and the David Fleming prize. In my second year I was elected into the College Board of Scholars. I now tutor full-time, helping others to reach their academic goals in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, hoping to foster not only confidence but also a passion for the subject. I am an approachable and dependable teacher, keen to tailor lessons in accordance with the specific requirements of both student and examination.
At Haberdashers' Aske's Boys School, Elstree, I took English, History and French A-Levels (AAA), gained a Distinction in the Advanced English A-Level and achieved straight A*s in 10 GCSE's. There I took a serious interest in sport and debating; taking the role of House Captain, Rugby Captain and Head of Cadet Army Section. I live in London with two other experienced tutors, writing together for screen and stage.
Dry memorisation is my greatest enemy. I am committed to ascertaining how each and every student learns best; I tailor my tutoring approach in accordance with the student's most immediate and engaging mode of learning. Establishing whether a student responds well to images, narratives, theory or dialogue is my job. From that point onwards I work to ensure that the student develops powerful tools of memorisation and analytical sophistication. I am a staunch believer that learning 'by rote' is a tired and ultimately joyless process. I offer a host of memory skills that have helped enormously me through my qualifications. These systems go far beyond acronymic tricks, focussing more on the fact that we learn incredibly well when the subject matter is rendered vibrant and interactive. My specialised approach aims to prove indispensable for my students during and beyond their examinations.
Aside from coaching my students through the core material of their syllabus, I can offer guidance in any of the following key areas:
Revision Skills: I suggest helpful and incisive ways to review previously studied material, seeking primarially to broaden the student's skills beyong those applied in the school environment. I try to make the revision process as enjoyable as possible, encouraging students to set realistic but ambitious goals between tutorials.
Essay technique: talking through the requirements of an essay, then offering proof-reading and detailed feeback in person or via e-mail.
Exam preparation: helping the student to fully understand what the examination expects of them, and how best to achieve the highest marks available. This preparatory process for the student includes close reading and discussion of exam s and marking systems. I will set practice papers ahead of a full feedback session.
University application: In coaching for a coming application I review UCAS forms, personal statements and conduct a series of mock-interviews.

Experience: My teaching experience includes a wide-range of student ages, both here and abroad. From 2010-2011 I toured the UK twice with the Cambridge Footlights, offering hour-long classes to English and Drama students aged between 11-18 in schools such as King's College Wimbledon, Haberdashers' Aske's, Hampton and Wilson's. I transferred this class to university-level students in the USA, teaching drama majors in Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and St. John Fisher University in New York. Further to this I have worked closely with the Chicken Shed Company, a performing arts organization who specialize in nurturing the talents of children with disabilities of a broad age range. Finally, in 2008 I was Regimental Sergeant-Major of the Haberdashers' Aske's Army Cadet Section, a role that required me to plan a three-hour schedule of tutorials for over one hundred students, aged between 15-18, every week. As a House Captain at School, I presented pre-researched talks every morning to all year-groups, and worked extensively with their academic and pastoral needs.
