I am afraid I am very unhappy with the way Zhan has proceeded. I am a teacher (school teacher for 17 years) as well and I am all for paying tutors their worth. However, Zhan has kept increasing the price since I paid for her contact information. She called it a "transport" fee... which in London is very relative. She lives in Fulham and I live in Clapham... not that far away... in any case, we agreed a total of 50 pounds for an hour and a half which meant already 15 pounds for transport because it would take her more than an hour back and for. She came three times to my house and lessons seemed ok-ish... for such a charge I would have expected worksheets, photocopies... I am a language especialist- Spanish and French (KS3 & 4) so I know what I am talking about... the exercises she did with the kids were from her own textbook but nothing for them to keep and even the records in the notebook the kids used were very messy. All to say that when we moved house a couple of weeks ago ( new address being 5 minutes walk literally from the old one) and she told me that she would have to charge me 60 pounds because now it took her longer to arrive to my house I decided to stop the lessons. I found it abusive to have to pay 25 pounds for transport from Fulham to Capham ( SW11) and I told her so. I am not going to use your website again because the exchange has cost me in the end quite a bit for 3 lessons. The idea of a one-time fee is fine if the tutors don`t abuse the student but in my case, I really don`t want to pay again for another possible tutor details ... it just seems awfully expensive if it doesn`t work. I am really sorry for this negative review but I am afraid this is what has happened. Thanks for your time.

Tutors Response :

I am very sorry you are unhappy with how I acted with you. I would just like to clarify a couple of points in response to you feedback. You are correct that I initially agreed to a price of £50 for 1.5 hours of teaching and 1 hour of travel (I charged £35 for teaching and £15 for travel, which takes account of the cost of travelling to yours and the time taken). However, the trip from my flat to yours took 45 minutes to your old property I timed this on six trips I made to and from yours, not 30 minutes, as you had told me. Now as I had agreed a price I stuck to this and did not try to renegotiate. Once you had moved further away, I contacted you saying that your new property was 50 minutes from mine rather than the 30 minutes you had claimed, which would be understood as it took me 45 minutes to get your old place and a further 5 minutes would make this 50 (this is backed up by the google maps data for the time taken by public transport between my flat and yours). I asked if it would be acceptable to increase my travelling fee at this stage as it was taking me the better part of two hours to get to and from yours, not 1 hour like I had initially thought. With this in mind I think that it is only fair that I asked for an extra £10 (making the total price £60) to compensate me for a three and half hour travel and teaching period rather than the two and a half hour period you told me it would be. I would also like to point out that I am not based in fulham I am further east, next to Earls Court, and so I have to get a bus to yours, so it would take me extra time to get to yours.
