Information about David
I am a maths graduate with a first from Oxford, a PhD from Imperial in financial economics, a PGCE from UCL and I completed the CFA exams. I have more than four years tutoring experience and two years part time teaching at sixth form. I also worked for 15 years in the City focussing on financial and mathematical modelling and still spend part of my time running a small consultancy giving asset allocation advice, based on my own econometric models.
I am a conscientious tutor, tailoring material to my students` needs. Where time and student interest allow, I like to help my students develop their understanding of the material, rather than just how to answer past questions, as this helps with remembering it as well as future studies and real life applications. I do understand though, that sometimes getting through an exam is all that matters.
My undergraduate maths was mainly `pure`, but I have worked on the applied side in finance since starting my PhD in 1995. I cover various pure maths subjects to degree level (analysis, topology, measure theory, logic, stochastic analysis) and econometrics, statistics and economic / financial mathematics to masters level (including MBAs) and various professional qualifications in finance (including CFA, IMC and CISI).
I normally tutor from my home or at nearby coffee shops if preferred. I do travel, but charge a fee for travel costs and time. I have also worked via Skype / Zoom etc. frequently. I hold an enhanced disclosure CRB.
My student rates vary from £32 to £50 depending on level and subject.
I can provide references on request. Here are a couple from past students.
"David is really a great tutor and is very versatile. He has massive financial knowledge both academically and real-world practices. I had many lessons with him : financial maths, derivative pricing, risk modeling (all at master level). He provides very good explanations and puts many different pieces of finance together into a much simpler form. And unlike many tutors I used to have, he rarely needs to open a book to answer your question!"
"I have found the lessons I had with David really useful and very enjoyable at the same time. In my second undergaduate year of Economics at Cambridge, I found several aspects of my Econometrics paper quite challenging, and David helped me to tackle them very efficiently as well to understand the intuition behind it. He is a great tutor, has been a big help for my revisions, and am sure he will be a big asset for whoever needs help in stats, econometrics, maths, finances etc"

I would highly recommend David as your first choice. Over the past two months David had been really helpful and without him I couldnt have completed my project. He has extensive knowledge in mathematics, programming, finance and economics (and more!) and helped me with all my problems. David not only solve the questions, but also expands beyond the surface into the root cause. The amount of time he spent outside of the tutorial classes show that he really is taking on the responsibility. I have asked at least 15+ tutors, whom all of them rejected to take on this project claiming that its too hard and above their level. So, Im really grateful to have had David as my tutor. SUPER 5 STARS AWARDED :)))

Very good. Helped with my dissertation, researched relevant papers before meeting with him, with great background knowledge. Very helpful in interpreting data, would recommend to anyone with any enquiries finance related.

Very nice chap, certainly very knowledgable. Also a good location. However, neither very good at focussing on the task at hand nor at conveying his knowledge. Very digressive and too detail-laden.
Tutors Response :
Thanks for that. My only comment would be that to understand the calculations in discounting, you need to be at least familiar with the basics of how power laws work, even if they don`t _seem_ relevant.
