Information about Matyas

I have recently finished my PhD in Physics at the University of Cambridge. Before that, I did my Master`s degree in Astrophysics, also at the Universe of Cambridge. I did my undergraduate degree at Imperial College London, where I read Theoretical Physics.

Before university, I was at Magdalen College School, Oxford. At A-Level, I studied Mathematics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and French.

Aside from my studies, I am a keen rugby league player. I also speak French fluently and Italian at an intermediate level.

I have a DBS check available if requested.

Availability: Weekday evenings and weekends.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I have been tutoring GCSE and A-Level students for over 6 years. During this time, I have helped my tutees attain high grades in examinations, and have seen them go onto study at top UK and US universities.

I also supervise (give tutorials) to 3rd-year undergraduates at the University of Cambridge, as well as having helped with STEM outreach workshops for A-Level students, and have taught at summer schools in Oxford.

Learning happens best 1 on 1. I take an informal, interactive and personable approach to teaching. My aim is to further and deepen the understanding of my tutees by explaining concepts from first principles, in a clear and engaging manner.

Mathematics and the Sciences are best mastered by doing problems. Usually, I will spend the first 10-20 minutes of the lesson introducing a topic, and the rest of the lesson will be dedicated to going through examples and learning the techniques required to overcome difficult questions.

I plan my lessons anew to suit each new learner and tend to set small exercises to be done independently. This solidifies learning and commits the taught material to memory.

Furthermore, I can offer advice to 6th form students applying to university and can assist with entrance exams.

DBS Check: Yes
