I am a fully qualified teacher and have worked in teaching, tutoring and training for over 30 years. I’ve been a class teacher in primary schools and I’ve also taught English and maths in schools, tuition centres and homes to small groups of children and on a one-to-one basis .

Since June 2020 I have been offering 1-1 online tuition through Zoom. I`ve found this to be very successful with primary-aged children and usually do 30 minutes for KS1 and 45 minutes for KS2. I charge £20 for 30 minutes and £25 for 45 minutes. I send homework through Google Classroom, which can then be completed online or on printed sheets. I regularly give feedback to parents on how their child is progressing.

The online tools add another dimension to teaching and I use many of them: the `share my screen` function to show worksheets; the `whiteboard function` and annotation tools to brainstorm ideas and explain concepts; educational videos from the internet to illustrate points; the `chat` function to allow children to type sentences. Online 1-1 teaching is very different to some of the online teaching offered by schools and I endeavour to make it as engaging as possible.

As well as my Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, I am also trained in the Montessori Method of education, which moves the child gently from the practical to the abstract and is very useful in overcoming blocks to learning, particularly in maths. I`ve enjoyed the challenge of making the practical experience available through the online space.

I specialize in teaching children who are experiencing difficulties in their learning. I love to teach children and watch them grow in confidence and enjoyment of the lessons. I do not tutor children for the 11+ or other competitive exams.

Availability: I have day, evening and weekend slots to accommodate both homeschoolers and those in formal education.
