I am an English tutor working in the Harrogate area. I currently have several tutees and am presently taking on more pupils.

I encourage my pupils to tackle challenge with excitement and determination and l set tasks that each individual will find engaging. As a Tutor I aim to inspire students with enthusiasm for English. Often success in English in linked closely with confidence and interest so these are both areas I endeavour to develop. I believe reading is an important part of acquiring vocabulary and understanding the writer’s craft and as an avid reader and writer myself, I am able to make lots of appropriate reading suggestions.

Availability: I am available on weekday evenings. I already have several students in my diary but have plenty of room to accommodate more so please get in touch if your would like to book me as your tutor and we can see what times work for us both. For sixth formers with free periods or pupils who are currently not in school full time, I am also able to arrange tutoring times during the day on week days.

Experience: I am a qualified English and Drama Teacher. My most recent teaching post was at Harrogate Grammar School who kindly support me with a glowing reference. My knowledge of how teaching at school and in the classroom works helps me to give the best possible support as a Tutor. I have experience teaching all age groups at Secondary School, including Key Stage 3 (Year 7-9), Key Stage 4 (GCSE Year 9-10) and Key Stage 5 (Sixthform). This Extends to familiarity with a variety of different exam boards and the current changes going on in education – the changes to The Teaching of English in particular.

Before training as a teacher I attained my degree from York University: BA in English Literature and History of Art. This provided me with understanding of a wide range of literature and an understanding of how English has changed alongside culture and art throughout history. During my PGCE (Teacher Training) at Exeter University, I also worked in Schools in Newquay and St Austell. Furthermore, after qualifying as a teacher I spent an extended period in Ghana, Africa, teaching young children English as part of a voluntary project to broaden my understanding of teaching and learning. I have also volunteered for Harrogate Youth Theatre, running workshops on a weekly basis and helping with Youth Theatre productions.
