Having graduated with a masters degree in physics I know what it’s like to stare into textbooks for hours trying to figure out the answer to that one illusive question. Some concepts are more difficult to grasp than others and I pride myself on my ability to explain and break down whatever theory my student may be struggling with. There has never been a “stupid question” and it can be seen from my references that I have helped many students understand on their own and in their own time.

Whether it is maths, physics, chemistry or biology it’s all about fully understanding the core ideas and principles which make up all the larger and more daunting theories. As a tutor I always aim to break down any problem into simpler pieces, which in turn, enables the student to reach their end goal. Understanding the general psychology of learning, I use a balance of visual and discussion based aids to enable maximum long term knowledge retention this will ensure optimum success when it comes to exam time.

I personally believe understanding is the most fundamental aspect of tutoring. Whether it’s my understanding of your goals, your understanding of the content, or a parents understanding of a child’s progress, everything is vital to create the most successful and enjoyable experience possible. For this reason I offer a free consultation session, prior to any lessons, to ensure all possible information is discussed, this is carried out via a three step process.

- Step one: Determining the subject, subject level and specific exam board.
- Step two: Short verbal discussion overlooking the appropriate syllabi to determine where strengths and weaknesses lie.
- Step three: Creation of study plan with acceptable dates and times also including topic lists and appropriate homework deadlines, where necessary.

This enables me to obtain an understanding of your needs before you gain the understanding needed your chosen subject. Please don’t be nervous, although this seems like a formal process, it’s actually at most, an informal discussion it has proved very effective in the past and has helped my students reach their goals successfully.
