Information about Vishal

I am a recent graduate of the University of Sheffield, with a degree in Financial Mathematics, looking to provide Maths tutoring services to pupils from primary through to 13+ level, including Common Entrance exams and 11+ exams.

Being a student in my former University course, Investment and Financial Risk Management at Cass Business School, has aided in developing my ardour for Mathematics and interest in teaching Mathematics. However, being a keen mathematician I found the course was focused too much on the fundamentals of economics rather than the numerical side of things, hence my decision to switch course to Financial Mathematics at The University of Sheffield. Throughout my primary and higher education, I have always shown a passion for Maths and numerical concepts, grasping new concepts quickly and efficiently, and being able to explain them in a clear and understandable manner.

I feel I have the ability to be an enthusiastic tutor and always get the best out pupils. As explained further below I am an effective communicator and feel that I can act as a positive role model for pupils to encourage, motivate, and inspire them to learn.

Throughout lower, higher and University education I have excelled through Mathematic topics and modules, in many stages being put through to further levels of learning.

My enjoyment of teaching, in particular, arose from a young age, I received additional tuition for my 11+ entrance exams which increased my awareness of the skills needed to motivate pupils to learn. I immediately felt I wanted to one day pass on the same skills I was being taught in a similar manner and felt I would be right for it.

Being part of an organisational team within an international youth organisation, Pandava Sena, has developed my ability to deal with challenging situations both independently and also amongst fellow team members. Especially in regards to dealing with younger people, I have been able to develop my mentoring skills through regular communication to inspire younger people to take part in volunteering opportunities, helping a local community. I have also gained experience in handling responsibilities much more efficiently. Every year I am given the opportunity to help organise an important festival in our local community, which accommodates for up to 80,000 people over two days. I am given the responsibility to attend to all our VIP guests giving me a constant opportunity to develop my communication and interpersonal skills.

During my previous University course I was working as a GCSE Maths tutor as part of City University’s Widening Participation Tutoring scheme, helping pupils in the local area. On a weekly basis I would visit Highbury Grove School and assist and teach students in preparation for their upcoming Maths GCSE exams. I worked in a classroom of 10-15 pupils, which has helped me to strengthen my skills to provide equal attention to all pupils. It has also provided opportunities for me to work with a range of class sizes.
In my opinion the most important part of tutoring is the relationship between the tutor and the student. If there is a strong and respectful bond between the two, there are guaranteed results of progress for the pupil and the tutor! Rewards and a positive learning environment also play a lead role in a tutee’s progress.

Through my current tutoring experience, I have used rewards such as small prizes and have realised how this can encourage pupils to work to the best of their ability. I have also seen with a positive and vibrant environment, a pupil naturally feels more comfortable therefore focusing more on their learning.
