Information about Andrew

My philosophy of education may be summed up as: “educational challenges & provision for all.”
I have an enthusiastic, holistic approach toward education and share the vision that quality must be accessible to all.
My job as a tutor in to equip students, not only with knowledge and understanding, but also with the skills to access knowledge, develop ideas and apply outcomes of learning successfully.
Students have to be prepared well for examinations and this in an environment where there is real enthusiasm for the pursuit of learning, genuine care and professional guidance.
In this way learning with me will be a successful and pleasurable experience.
I have a thorough understanding of the requirements of all examination boards in the provision of English Language and Literature.

Teaching Approach:

Effective teaching must provide opportunities for all. What does this mean? Well opportunities for investigation, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and synthesis of textual material, values, beliefs and traditions as well as an ability to express understanding orally and in written form. This can only be realised if resources, for extension and the slow learner are available.
Learners must have the opportunity to make connections and distinctions about, for example, who they are, what they and others believe and the significance of the learning experience they confront.

Good teachers are flexible and aware that changes are often necessary to support those learners experiencing particular difficulties that stymie their learning.

Frequently there is a need to adapt or adopt alternative practices, in order to respond effectively to personal or social problems.
This can be done by varying the techniques employed through didactic teaching and teacher led initiatives.
Also by adopting guided supported self study with emphasis on open learning and discussion of what has been achieved and its significance.

Suitable resource material, the use of computer programmes are valuable means that serve to reinforce and develop knowledge and understanding of English

The art of the educationalist is knowing when, where and with whom to apply different strategies for learner development. This is what can makes teaching, learning and exploring so much fun.
This I have found with students who are dyslexic & dyspraxic.

Andrew is a kind and patient man who seems to have the right balance to realise the students potential. My son went from a 41% in RS to a 75% in 3 hour long study periods with Andrew. Now he is also helping with History and English.
