Information about Bart

TEMPORARY NO AVAILABILITY

At this moment I am (nearly) fully booked, with no availability during common tutoring hours (3pm-8pm) or weekends.

Hi, my name is Bart. I have over 7 years` experience in teaching and tutoring at all levels from early secondary school maths to university level mechanical engineering.

I grew up in a small village in the Netherlands. I have always had a keen interest in biomedical science and engineering and because I really enjoyed mathematics I went to the University of Twente to study biomechanical engineering. After my graduation in 2007 I started as a lecturer and researcher at the same university. In December 2013 I moved to Oxford. Since then I have worked as supply teacher in Oxfordshire and clinical engineer in the Oxford Gait Laboratory. Currently I am working at home on finishing my PhD research.

I have always enjoyed helping others and trying out different approaches to explain more or less complex ideas. At first by assisting classmates at school, later in more formal roles as tutor, lecturer and teacher. This experience has taught me to listen to my students and adapt my explanations and assignments accordingly. Everyone has their own learning style and it is up to me to discover and make use of it. This personalised approach beneficial for both the student and me a tutor. I take great pride and satisfaction in helping someone to improve his or her performance. Especially when it is accompanied or even caused by increased confidence and enjoyment.

During my studies of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Twente (Enschede, The Netherlands), I worked as a private tutor and manager of a secondary education website with animations, exercises and an interactive assessment tool covering courses such as physics, mathematics and biology. After my graduation in 2007 (MSc in Biomechanical Engineering), I started as lecturer and mentor within the same university. During this period I also followed the University Teaching Qualification programme, including courses on Lesson design, Teaching and supervising skills and Mentorship. This position was later combined with my research of human motion analysis using ambulatory measurements systems (think of very compact Wii remote controller attached to the body). After moving to Oxford I have worked as a supply teacher, covering courses such as Mathematics, Science and Physics.

Bart is a very reliable tutor and his lessons have so far been very well planned and he interacts and explains things very clearly. He always provides good feedback to us following each lesson and so far, my daughter seems to be motivated by his teaching.

Mr. Bart is very knowledgeable and tailors his instruction to the students current level. He answers my questions and makes sure I understand the content. I`m keeping him until my degree is complete!
