Information about Chelsea
Hello,I am a recently graduated medical doctor from the University of Bristol. I have been tutoring for over six years, tutoring for over 1,000 with a large number of students of varying ages and abilities.
I view myself as a mentor rather than a tranditional tutor. I work in partnership with my students encouraging them to find the joy in learning and education and actively encouraging to ask questions and bring their interests to my lessons, exploring beyond the traditional school curriculum. I try to get my students to take ownership of their education, helping them find teaching/learning methods that work best for them but also techniques for self-motivation. I feel that this helps my students to learn important skills which will benefit them in later life. The large majority of my students have enjoyed my methods and have become more confident and happy with the subject.
Before university, I had won various youth awards for my colorectal cancer research, and since then have completed a lung cancer project. I am very enthusiastic about science and maths and am hoping to inspire my students.
From January 2014 (when I had just turned 17) to September 2015 I have been carrying out colorectal cancer research at the University of Leicester. During that time I have won various awards and prizes for my work. I received a highly commended - 3rd place at the National Science and Engineering Competition and a nomination to represent the UK at the LIYSF. At LIYSF I was a representative for England after being selected to be the flag bearer at the opening ceremony, and later being selected out of over 160 projects to present my work to the entire forum. Following this I went and competed in the Jack Wills 2015 Competition for the cancer research I have been doing from January 2014 - September 2015. I was then invited back to be a representative for LIYSF as part of the staff team in summer 2016.

Experience: I have worked as part of a tuition centre for 6 months teaching Maths, English, and Science from year 1 to GCSE in a variety of settings - large group classes 8-10 people, small group as well as private one to one lessons.
Since then I have been doing private tuition through tutor hunt for five years. In this time I have had very positive feedback from both parents and students.
So far I have had over 1,000 hours of teaching time, and over 35 one-to-one students in the last six years.
I was also invited back to work at the London International Youth Science forum 2016 as a counsellor. In my role I was to ensure the well being of all participants as well as leading visits to scientific visits across London and England. At the forum I also ran a session on Applying to Medicine which was open for all 475 participants to attend.
