My LEDC and MEDC Case Study

A LEDC is a 'less economically developed country' and a MEDC is a 'more economically developed country'. These names help people to know where the least and most poverty is, but not only that but the overall less economically developed countries such as Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica etc.

Charities like Oxfam, Comic Relief, and Red Cross help to rehabilitate villages and places where Natural Hazards are most likely to hit. For example the 2004 tsunami in East Asia when this was happening all the first aid and food, water and shelter rescue teams were on standby for the all clear to fly in to help.Even if some countries are not in trouble after Natural Hazards then help is still at hand. For example a war or a feud or even an inter country dispute.

'Third world countries' are LEDC's these places are extremely poor or disadvantaged countries in the world. For instance a main problem in LEDC's or even 'third world countries', 95% of the people that live there have HIV or AIDS. They also have 65% of the worlds refugees live or come from these places.

Although Great Britain is a MEDC we also have a great deal of cases that involve outside or inter-country organised charity work this is for those times when we don't expect an attack from the inside of our country. For example the London bombings were not backed up by any first aid or shelter help. Many lives were lost in the London bombings and were part of a large plan to kill and take over Great Britain.

Child Education is an important and key reason for a lot of charity work in LEDC's. In places like Africa only 25% of the children get at least two years in education. In Great Britain 96.5% of children have a full education. That is 70.5% more than 'third world countries' like Africa.

Another important point is Fair-trade. Fair-trade is a programme that insures all the food producers are paid fairly although this is a good thing the product overall becomes more expensive. Some people would say that this does not matter as we are helping other people to be fairly paid for their hard work. Products like coffee, bananas, sugar and tea are grown by these 'third world countries' or LEDC's. Not all of the LEDC's are in the group of third world countries but a lot like India and Thailand and places in East Asia and South Asia. Poverty, poverty is when people have a lack of an essential need like food or money. Places in South East Asia more likely to be high in poverty. Although Great Britain is a MEDC we also have an element of poverty.

This you can see in very poor parts of the country. *on another page a map of MEDC's and LEDC's.

Hospitals are vital for the large population in both LEDC's and MEDC's. The demand for medical treatment is challenging but somehow even in poor countries a few people manage to cure and help large groups of diseased and sick ridden poor people that live among us and even in MEDC's as well as LEDC's.

Hundreds of thousands of people die every year from HIV/AIDS this virus is yet incurable and orphans thousands of thousands of children of all ages. At first the parents or older children get sick and then become too ill to work and the family grows deeper and deeper into poverty then when the older child or parents die the children are left to fend for themselves and they often die to as a consequence to starvation or malnourishment.

Charities like Oxfam or Red Cross not only take orphans or abandoned children are given a better start or a new beginning to life than they could have wished for. If we did not give money to charity then the charities that help and rescue many people and businesses then the African, Asian and Multi-cultural communities would be less likely to survive.

In conclusion many MEDC's do help LEDC's to continue being able to survive but as a whole we could help them a little more by giving a little in one way of charity, giving to charity (people living in MEDC's or better off LEDC's) can be a great help for people living in poverty (in most, nearly all LEDC's) I also think that help in both MEDC's and LEDC's is a very important factor in human nature and life, all in all I feel that we owe a great debt to the charities and people that organise charity help and rescue for not only giving others a better standard of life but to bringing mankind a giant step closer to peace and harmony.
