Information about Emily
I`m looking forward to taking on new GCSE and A-Level students on this coming 2019/20 academic year! Bookings are open now.
My approach to tuition is about inspiring confidence and curiosity, encouraging each student to discover what makes them tick and believe in their ability to achieve.
I tailor sessions to identify individual styles and strengths, whilst supporting areas for improvement. As a result, students are equipped with their own toolkit for learning which can be carried back to the classroom, and into the next chapter of their academic life.
Specialising in English and essay-based subjects at GCSE and A-Level, my sessions are focused and clearly organised, with a thorough engagement in syllabus content (providing for a wide range of examination boards). I help students to set long-term goals and find independence in their learning, whilst making time to discuss common hurdles, such as exam revision techniques and tips on essay structure. I am also happy to consult in GCSE and A-Level art coursework.
I value the affinity that can be found in 1-2-1 tuition - occasionally I find myself even learning from students themselves!

I fell in love with English and Art in equal measure at school, achieving 4 A-Levels in English Language & Literature (A*), Fine Art (A*), Psychology (A*) and Religious Studies (A), before going on to study BA English at the University of Exeter (1st class honours).
I later moved to London to study Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts and was shortlisted for the ACME Studio Award, as well as the South London Gallery Postgraduate Residency.
After a period working at the Royal Academy of Arts, I went on to study for an MA in the Visual Cultures department at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I will be embarking on a PhD in 2020. My MA research was selected for presentation at the 2019 Law and Society Association conference, Washington D.C.
Alongside tuition and research, I remain a practising artist and writer. Oh, and I also love running, cooking and conservation in my free time!
Availability: Available 7 days a week, daytime and evenings.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have tutored several A-Level students in English Language & Literature and Religious Studies.
A success story: one of my students was undertaking her AS/A2 qualifications in English Language & Literature, but lacked the confidence in forming arguments, managing exam time and structuring her essays. I tutored her on a fortnightly basis - in both examination essays and coursework research - keeping my own experience and expertise in mind. I was successful in helping her to find a voice, express arguments clearly and gain self-confidence. Her results rose by over a whole grade during this time and she eventually chose to study English at university, applying successfully to a Russell Group institution.
I also have experience in guiding students through the university application process. In addition, I am equipped to give advice, feedback and assistance in structuring CVs, personal statements and work applications.
